SmartGrid, Energy & Future Appliances
June 23rd, 2010What you see above is a concept visualisation. It’s a by product of project work currently underway in the studio, and it represents one of the most influential factors in the future development of home appliances and electronics, in our opinion.
What are the factors which will influence the next renaissance in home appliance technology and design? Without a doubt energy consumption will be close to, if not top of the list.
Ongoing technological advancements like zigbee, g.hn, tendril, and the HomeGrid forum to name but a few, are bringing us ever closer to the reality of a “smart grid”. A grid of interconnected homes and devices which not only supplies power, but transmits data in multiple directions.
What really matters however, is what these technologies enable. How do they improve user experience and satisfaction?
Imagine what becomes possible if your washing machine could observe the power usage in your local grid. Enabled by the smart grid technologies mentioned above, the appliance can initiate and cancel it’s own cycles, making the most efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly use of local energy. Simple yet revolutionary functionality.
